♢ Transylvania, “land beyond the forests”, so unique in Europe because of its rich multicultural values! Here Romanians, Hungarians and Germans
have lived in harmony for the past eight centuries, preserving at the same time their distinct traditions and customs. Starting from Cluj-Napoca, the heart of the region, you shall see Europe’s best preserved medieval villages, with their colorful cobbled streets and old manors, fortified churches with strong defense towers and walls, … you can imagine being in one of Grimm’ brothers stories. It is a tour in which you shall discover the diversity of customs, folk costumes and dances, houses, foods and flavors, in a must-see, must taste experience!
08:30 → This tour will start in Cluj-Napoca, capital of Transylvania and from here you’ll head for villages in Kalotaszeg region.
09:30 → First visit will be in Mera, famous for its needlework, colorful embroidery and beads stitching on their traditional costumes. You shall visit a traditional house and see the ‘Clean Room’ or ‘Dowry Room’, actually a richly decorated show-off room meant to impress guests or potential suitors :).
12:00 → Lunch will be at a local family with delicious home made dishes.
13:00 → Visit the “Buffalo Museum“, dedicated to these animals once very popular in Transylvania but now gradually disappearing; their quite fat milk and derived products – cheeses and sour-cream, are specialties of the region.
14:00 → Visit a local traditional wood painter, the white & red painted furniture with flower motifs is really eye-catching.
15:00 → Departure to Macau and stop to visit the local church where you’ll see and admire a beautifully painted cassetted ceiling.
17:00 → Departure to Sic village, in Meszoseg area.
18:00 → Arrive at pension and visit their special museum… you shall see an impressive collection of costumes and boots used for dancing and you shall get explanations about the traditional lads dances of Transylvania, some of them listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage (Click Here for more details).
19:00 → Dinner at pension.
Overnight: local pension in Sic village | Meals: lunch, dinner
10:00 → Visit the 17th century Reformed Church in Sic and hear about to the history of this village, forever marked by the tragic events of 1717 that molded village life afterwards.
10:00 → If Sunday, admire locals going to church dressed in their best traditional costumes.
13:00 → Visit a local house and get explanations about the traditional rooms, objects, clothes, habits and so on; you can even try on one of their costumes!
14:00 → Enjoy lunch in a local home with traditional dishes and drinks… be careful with the strong plum brandy (Palinka) double or triple distilled in one of the local facilities.
16:00 → After lunch depart to Alba county, to visit another beautiful village with Hungarian and German influences – Rimetea.
19:00 → Arrival in Rimetea area, check-in and dinner at local pension.

08:30 → Morning stroll in the village; if you are an early riser and weather permitting you can admire the sunrises (!!!) in the morning. Due to the shape of the nearby mountain, Rimetea inhabitants are blessed with two sunrises per day!
10:00 → Visit the Etnographic Museum and then depart towards the Saxon area of Transylvania.
13:00 → Arrive in Biertan, lunch at local restaurant.
14:30 → Visit Biertan Fortified Church (World Heritage) and learn how Saxons came to Transylvania and why they they build such fortresses; afterwards stroll in the village to see the three different neighborhoods: Saxon, Romanian and Roma.
16:00 → Departure to Sighisoara, one of the best preserved medieval citadels in Europe.
16:30 → Stroll in Sighisoara Citadel (World Heritage) on its narrow cobbled streets and admire the Clock Tower, the guilds towers, the beautiful old houses; when tired go to Viscri (or nearby villages), final destination of the day (approx. 40 min drive).
19:00 → Arrival, check-in and dinner at local pension.
Overnight: Pension in one of the Saxon villages in the area | Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
08:30 → If not already there, departure to Viscri and visit this picturesque village with its white Fortified Church (World Heritage).
10:00 → Departure then to Szekely land, mostly inhabited by a Hungarian minority that arrived in Transylvania at the same time with the Saxons.
12:30 → Arrival in one of the villages in Targu Secuiesc area. Upon arrival lunch at local restaurant.
PM → Go and visit a watermill. Dated from the 19th century, it is fully functional! After making some flour, you are invited to prepare bread with potatoes, local specialty.
While waiting for the bread to be baked, you’ll assist the making of a traditional sweet – the ‘Kurtos-kalacs’ (spit-cake), a thin layer of pastry rolled on a wooden spit and baked on coals like barbecue. Yummy…
It is time to check the bread! After having a bite, we shall visit one of the sulfur mofettes, the one in Hatuica is very popular with locals and tourists as well. Now you’ll be heading towards our last stop, located in a magical village.
19:00 → Arrival in Valea Zalanului.
Overnight: Valea Zalanului Pension | Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
08:30 → After breakfast take part in local activities organized by the pension (activities are different depending on the day).
12:30 → Lunch organized by the pension.
14:00 → Departure to Bucharest.
16:00 → Stop en-route to see the Fortified Churches of Prejmer (World Heritage) and Harman.
19:00 → Arrival in Bucharest.
