What to Expect

An extensive trip for Dracula fans! Beside the well visited sites like Sighisoara -the birthplace-, Snagov -where it is presumed that Dracula is buried-, or Bran castle -known as Dracula’s Castle-, this tour will take you off the beaten tracks.
You shall visit Vlad The Impaler’s real fortress, Poienari, as well as the village with a rich history related to him. Your trip will take you to see the Princely Court in Targoviste where he spent a part of his life, and will end in Snagov.

Itinerary

Day 1 Bucharest — Targoviste — Arefu (230 km)

08:00 → Pick up from your hotel in Bucharest then depart to Targoviste.
09:30 → Sightseeing of Targoviste. Visit the ruins of the Princely Court (closed on Monday), where Vlad Tepes spent a part of his life.
10:30 → Depart then to Arefu Village.
13:00 → Arrival in Arefu and lunch at a local family with typical Romanian dishes.
Visit Arefu Village and discover from the locals some interesting legends about Dracula.

Overnight: in Poienari at a local pension (La Cetate 3* or similar) | Meals: Lunch, dinner

Day 2Poienari — Sibiu — Sighisoara (220 km)

08:30 → Departure to Poenari Fortress. This is the real castle of Dracula, the fortress where Vlad Tepes (the Impaler) lived for several years. This place is the theater for many dark stories… You need to climb 1480 steps to reach the castle ruins, perched high above the surrounding area like an eagle’s nest. The view of the valley is breathtaking!
12:00 → Lunch under own arrangement at a local restaurant then depart to Sibiu.
16:00 → Short walking sightseeing tour of Sibiu, a medieval city with 900 years’ worth history, you will explore the historic part of the city around the Upper and the Lower Town.
19:30 → Continue to Sighisoara. Dinner by candlelight in Dracula’s birthplace.

Overnight: in Sighisoara (Hotel Casa Wagner 3* or similar) | Meals: breakfast, dinner.

Day 3Sighisoara— Bran— Brasov (180 km)

08:30 → Sightseeing along the medieval streets of Sighisoara. Visit the World Heritage citadel, entrance to the Clock Tower and stroll under the School Staircase leading you to the Church on the Hill.
10:30 → Departure then to Bran Castle.
12:30 → Arrival in Bran, free time for lunch at a local restaurant.
14:00 → Visit Bran Castle, the famous castle known to be linked to Dracula.
16:30 → Departure to Brasov.
17:00 → Arrival in Brasov. Dinner under own arrangement.

Overnight: in Brasov (Vila Katharina 4* or similar) | Meals: breakfast

Day 4Brasov — Snagov — Bucharest (200 km)

08:00 → Walking tour in Brasov. Visit the medieval city of Brasov with its most important highlights: Council Square, Black Church, White & Black Towers, Catherine’s gate.
11:00 → Departure to Bucharest.
12:30 → Free time for lunch on the way.
14:30 → Stop in Snagov village to visit the beautiful orthodox church of Snagov Monastery. Snagov is presumed to be Vlad Tepes’s burial place.
16:00 → Departure back to Bucharest.
17:00 → Arrival at your hotel.

• The program may change due to national and local events.
• The tour is organized taking into account the official schedule of the sites in 2020.
• The Black Church may be closed on specific religious occasions and on Mondays (from 1st of January to 5th of April and from 5th of October to April); Sighisoara Clock Tower and the Church on the Hill are closed on Mondays.
