This tour is suitable for those who want to discover the history of more than 40 years under the communist rule.
You will learn about the dictator’s life, Nicolae Ceausescu and you will visit & explore the most important Communist-era landmarks with their distinctive architectural style, the legacy of the regime.
You will also have the opportunity to hear stories about daily life and see how people used to live back then, by visiting a market and an apartment located in a typical communist flat building communist neighborhood.
08:30 → Pick up from your hotel, then depart to market.
09:00 → Visit Obor, the most famous market and mall during the communist times, then go to the northern part of the city.
10:00 → See Casa Scanteii (now Free Press House), built in Soviet realism architecture in 1956.
11:00 → Visit Palatul Primaverii, former residence of Ceausescu (closed on Monday).
13:30 → Go to Piata Muncii and from there up on the former Boulevard of Socialist Victory.
15:00 → Stop in Unirii Square, see St. John the New Church that on May 30, 1986 was translated from the main street for 23 m and hidden in between blocks of flats.
15:30 → Visit Casa Poporului (People’s House), currently the Parliament Palace.
17:00 → Go to Uranus area, a part of Bucharest that was almost completely demolished during the construction of the new Civic Center and People’s House.
17:30 → Take metro to Militari district, a typical communist workers’ neighborhood.
18:30 →Visit an average communist apartment, try a cup of blended coffee widely known by then as Nechezol (chickpeas and some coffee).
19:30 → Arrival at your hotel in Bucharest. End of the tour.
