What to expect?

This tour is suitable for those who want to get a better understanding of the communist era in Romania and learn more about the impact of Ceausescu’s oppressive regime. Find out how Ceausescu rose to power, visit the most emblematic architectural legacy, discover the villa where the couple lived and in the end, you will get a full picture about a key moment in the Romanian history: the Revolution from 1989. You will see the place where Ceausescu pronounced his last speech before escaping and being captured & executed in December 1989. A trip to Targoviste will allow you to understand how the couple spend their last hours at the military garrison where they were trialed and executed.

Itinerary

Bucharest - Targoviste - Bucharest

09:30 → Pick up from your hotel, then depart to the northern part of the city, Primaverii district.
10:00 → Visit Palatul Primaverii, former residence of Ceausescu (closed on Monday and Tuesday).
11:00 → Road to Targoviste, a small city located at 80 km distance from Bucharest.
12:30 → Visit the former military garrison now turned into the Museum of Communism (closed on Monday), where Ceausescu coupe were executed on Christmas Day after a quick trial. The bullet holes and the body outlines are still visible on the outside wall.
13:00 → Free time for lunch in Targoviste city centre.
14:00 → Return to Bucharest.
15:30 → Visit Casa Poporului (People’s House), currently the Parliament Palace, one of his major achievements, designed and almost completed by the dictator as the center of political and administrative power.
17:00 → Stop in the Revolution Square for a full presentation of the events that took place there in December 1989. You will see the former headquarters of the Communist Party and the balcony where Ceausescu pronounced his last speech. See the Monument of Rebirth, the memorial for the victims of 1989 Revolution.See the grave of former dictator Ceausescu and his wife buried at Ghencea Cemetery (this visit is subject to confirmation).
19:00 → Arrival at your hotel in Bucharest. End of the tour.
