What to Expect

Discover the elegance of old days and learn the secret of needlework crafts in Romania.
This tour was specially designed for those interested in exploring one of the richest cultural treasures of Transylvania and Maramures: needlework.  Expect private interaction with local craftsmen carefully selected by our staff, while local needlework gurus will be at your disposal to share knowledge passed on for centuries.
Enjoy a unique chance to master a fading yet extraordinary craft.

  • Mingle with the villagers: attend a Sunday mass at a Church (this is not applicable to all departures).

Itinerary

Day 1Cluj – Sic – Cluj-Napoca (Sunday)

08:00 → Meet at hotel or airport with English speaking guide/driver.
AM → Visit Meszoseg area, namely Sic village. See people in traditional costumes going to the church. Lunch at a local house with traditional dishes.
PM → Needlework workshop. Return to Cluj-Napoca. 

Overnight: Cluj-Napoca at 4* hotel | Meals: lunch

Day 2Cluj-Napoca – Mera – Cluj-Napoca (Monday)

AM → Breakfast at hotel. Visit Macau and Mera villages, in Kalotaszeg region, where Hungarian traditions are still very well-preserved.
PM → Lunch at a local house, then enjoy the afternoon by learning about local embroidery techniques and traditional patterns. Return to Cluj-Napoca in the evening. Dinner at a local restaurant in the city center.

Overnight: Cluj-Napoca at 4* hotel | Meals: breakfast and lunch

Day 3Cluj-Napoca – Huedin – Sighetu Marmatiei (Tuesday)

AM → Breakfast at hotel. Departure to Huedin to see the local market where Romanian and Hungarian villagers sell antique cloths embellished with traditional embroideries.
PM → Visit the Protestant Church and admire the embroideries then continue to Sighetu Marmatiei. On the way visit Șurdești Wood Church, a UNESCO World Heritage. Check-in and Dinner.

Overnight: Sighetu Marmatiei at 3* hotel | Meals: breakfast and lunch

Day 4Sighetu Marmatiei – Sapanta – Tisa – Sighetu Marmatiei (Wednesday)

AM → In the morning visit the Merry Cemetery.
PM → Drive to Tisa village to visit Maria Pipas House, here you will see the biggest private collection of embroideries in Romania. Return to Sighet. Dinner at a local restaurant.

Overnight: Sighetu Marmatiei at 3* hotel | Meals: breakfast and lunch

Day 5Sighetu Marmatiei – Cluj-Napoca (Thursday)

AM → Transfer to Cluj-Napoca (hotel or airport) in the morning. End of services.
